Why Stamp Duty Matters
Stamp duty and registration charges represent a significant additional cost when purchasing property in India, on top of the agreed price. Understanding these charges is essential for accurate budgeting, as many first-time buyers underestimate this expense. These charges vary significantly by state, and several states charge women buyers less — but not all states do, so check the rate for the state you are buying in.
