Villivakkam is a well-established residential locality in North Chennai, positioned strategically between major industrial hubs including Ambattur, Padi, ICF, and Perambur Loco Works. The area is named after the sacred Vilvam tree planted by Sage Agasthya and features ancient temples like Agastheeswarar Temple that add cultural depth to the neighbourhood. Connectivity is a major strength—Villivakkam Railway Station on the Chennai Suburban network links residents to Chennai Central and Arakkonam, while the Villivakkam Bus Terminus off Konnur High Road provides extensive MTC bus services. The locality is set to receive a major infrastructure boost with three upcoming metro stations under Chennai Metro Phase II, significantly enhancing accessibility to IT corridors on OMR, Adyar, and Mylapore. The working-class residential character is complemented by numerous schools, hospitals, and the historic Villivakkam Market. While traffic congestion on arterial roads and occasional waterlogging during monsoons remain challenges, ongoing infrastructure projects promise smoother commutes and better drainage in the near future.
